A generous portion of painstaking detail coupled with a dash of style, the GABPS Academy National Finals 2013 held at the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur served up a truly remarkable show of draught skills, which saw the Top 3 hospitality industry professionals from a pool of 1,400 participants qualifying to an intensive GABPS Academy boot camp.

The GABPS Academy Top 3
The GABPS Academy boot camp is the chance for the Top 3 to prove that they are mentally, emotionally and physically prepared to take on the title of the GABPS Hero of the Year 2013 and to represent Malaysia among the crème de la crème of the hospitality industry at the Heineken Global Bartender Finals in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

Out of 1,400 hospitality industry professionals that GABPS Academy trained this year, 30 participants qualified to the GABPS Academy Regional Finals, of which 6 were qualified for the GABPS Academy National Finals.

Judged by a panel of seasoned experts, the ultimate quality showdown was the culmination of a nationwide search over a period of 12 months in the making that showcased their bartending prowess and evolution of their growth since they joined the GABPS Academy Training programme late last year.

Although the perfect pint of Heineken can be achieved in 5 simple steps, mastering the art of pouring takes more than just a few tries. That is where GABPS Academy stepped in to equip hospitality industry professionals from all over Malaysia via a comprehensive training programme that not only hone their pouring skills, but grooms them to be stars in the hospitality industry.

On 25th November 2013, the GABPS Hero of the Year 2013 will join national winners from 20 other countries in Heineken’s global markets such as Greece, Ireland and Taiwan, in a nerve-racking and exhilarating battle of skills, knowledge and determination of the magic quality that separates the excellent Star Serve bartenders from the one with something special. They will vie for the title of the world’s best Heineken bartender at the first ever Global Bartender Finals in Amsterdam, and the grand prize of being sent to some of the world’s best bars located in the city of the winner’s choice.

Not forgetting their loyal consumers, just a month ago Heineken fans were able to virtually learn how to perform the five steps in the Heineken Pouring Ritual while putting their beer knowledge to the test in a pop quiz with the Star Serve Facebook App. The Top 10 virtual pourers also demonstrated their skills in a showdown during the Heineken Consumer Pour-Off Challenge at the National Finals with the winner, Leong Yee Kum, taking home a trip to join the GABPS Hero of the Year 2013 for The Heineken Experience in Amsterdam and to witness the Heineken Global Bartender Finals in November.
