THE DRAMATICALLY LONG INFOGRAPHIC OF SHARK-KILLING STATS

Over 3,500 shark fins being sun-dried in Taiwan.

Personally, I have been to too many banquets and dinners that serve shark fin soup as a standard dish. Although I cannot claim to be an environmental activist myself, I was always disturbed by the idea of the grossly overpriced dish simply because it felt like nothing more than a pompous display of spending power. In other words, it’s one of many ways to score bonus points for the oriental ‘Face‘.

In any case, about 100 million sharks are killed every year for their fins – a statistical fact that has been creatively put into a dramatically huge infographic by marketing wizard Joe Chernov and the folks at RIPETUNGI.
