Every little bit counts. There are so many things you could do to contribute to the environment, and most of them are pretty simple to accomplish. So, since it’s time to start planning those New Year’s resolutions, why not slot some of these easy-to-do items into your list? (Image via centralcarwash.ca)

#1 HIT UP THE CAR WASH
A professional car wash saves a lot more water than a DIY one would, simply because they have the right equipment, and many hours of practice.
#2 STOP ALL PAPER BILLS
Have you not heard of e-billing? They’re so much better since you can keep them forever, and you’ll reduce the clutter.
#3 SAY NO TO PLASTIC BAGS
If you get 2 plastic bags a day, that’s more than 700 bags per year for just one person. Bring along foldable recyclable bags and reduce your rubbish.
#4 GO OLD SCHOOL – USE A MATCH
Lighters turn into non-biodegradable waste, and 1.5 billion of these end up being thrown out each year. Use matches, and cardboard matches made of recycled paper if possible.
#5 GET YOUR OWN COFFEE CUP
Some places offer discounts if you bring your own mugs to take away your coffee. Kill two birds with one stone and save the environment as well.
RECYCLE AT HOME
This one is a no-brainer. Sort your own recyclable rubbish at home and send it to a centre once a month.
#6 NO MORE BOTTLED WATER
More than 90% of plastic bottles are not recycled, and end up again as non-biodegradable waste. To the environment a favour and bring your own bottled water. You’ll end up saving cash too!
GREEN YOUR PLATE ONCE A WEEK
Going vegetarian even once a week reduces your overall environmental footprint. To produce 1kg of beef, it takes somewhere between 13,000 – 100,000 litres of water.
BUY SECOND HAND
Reduce the amount of wastage circulating the earth by stepping in a second hand shop for your gadgets once in a way.
SUPPORT LOCAL GOODS
It takes lots of fuel and carbon emissions to import items into a country. Support locally made products when you can and reduce your own carbon footprint.
