Having achieved success and accolades at shows in the world’s fashion capitals in London, Paris and Osaka, Limkokwing University continues to make headlines in the world of fashion. All in all, it was a fabulously stylish night as the Limkokwing Fashion Club took part at one of the most prominent fashion events in the region, the Jakarta Fashion Week 2014. Being the only international university to take part in this prestigious event was yet another indication of its fast growing reputation of showcasing emerging designers pushing their limits with their creative and innovative designs and not being afraid to be different.
Needless to say, fashionistas were awed by the predominantly black edgy collection designed by Limkokwing alumni. These included modern stylish essentials set off by a strong fusion of Islamic, Hindu and Chinese elements exuding a truly Malaysian inspired collection. Models from Indonesia, Brazil, Russia and the United Kingdom transformed the fashion wear into a visual feast on the catwalk as they sashayed sensually to ecliptic to a fusion of African and Asian rhythmic beats.
This highly anticipated show attracted the top movers and shakers from around the world and among the most enthusiastic witness were the editors of influential glossy magazines such as Ni LuhSekar, Editor in Chief of Femina Group, Peter Zewet, Editor at Large of Destin Asian Media Group, Adeline JuniMewen for ELLE Magazine with Intan Dian Sarwon for Her World among them.
A multitude of media representations from Go Girl Magazine, ELLE Magazine, Nylon, Joy Femina, CLEO, GraziaCitaCinta, Estetica and many more were energized by the young designer’s collections.
The fashion week attracted notable attendees such as actresses Louise Anastasya, Laudia Cynthia Bella, Kimberly Ryder and TyasMirash. Supermodels Rebecca Rejiman and Moudie Ben Huppe were also a show of force. Industry captains such as Joe F. Saverio, Vice President of Tex Saverio, Warren K. Liu, CEO of Tex Saverio were also among the enthusiastic audience.
Nicole Ryan, a model from the United Kingdom acknowledged it was an honour to walk for Limkokwing Fashion Club at the event. “Having watched the whole process with the students and team, from sketching to the construction of the garments, confirming the sequence and finally on the run way, I am more than proud of the students and the team. It was so important to be the best in Jarkata as this is our first International show, showcasing the Fashion Club line,” she said.
“The collection was amazing,” said Limkokwing alumni Cynthia Chaerunisa, Co-Founder of Lola Box. “It was beyond what students do for assignments and they created a truly professional line. Thumbs up to Limkokwing Fashion Designers and alumni.”
Limkokwing University through the Jakarta Fashion Week delivered an unrivaled platform for new emerging talent. It has, over the years, produced a luminous talent of Indonesian fashion designers the likes of Merlin Yuwita, StaciaAndani, the only Indonesian representative to feature at Paris Fashion Week 2013, a notable entrepreneur from Indonesia who was recently featured in Forbes and Cynthia Chaerunnisa.
Dato Tiffanee Marie Lim, Associate Vice President Talent and Brand Development at Limkokwing University, a was instrumental in putting together a good show for the university was equally enthusiastic about the response to the collection. “I can’t believe it has finally happened, we have been looking forward for this for a really long time and we are happy for our students. It was important for us to celebrate this World’s first in Indonesia, our first choice was Indonesia, after having been invited to showcase in Los Angeles and Kazakhstan.”
“Our next destination would be opening stores, online and around the world, we would love to connect to our students from all over 160 countries becoming an international brand at the same time,” she concluded.
All it remains to be seen now is how much further the Limkokwing Fashion Club can go. As it builds this burgeoning brand and gains visibility at the fashion capitals of the world, the designs by students and alumni are fast becoming a world renowned symbol and encompass many different landscapes such as music, art and, of course, fashion.
