Great balls of fire are going to streak through the sky, and it’s not the end of the world! What? It’s the Perseid 2013 Meteor shower (named as such as the meteors appear to come from the Perseus constellation) at its peak, and the spectacular climax of the event is happening today – 11 August 2013.
One of the most epic annual fireworks display – courtesy of the cosmos – this shower produces more ‘pyrotechnics’ than any other visible meteor shower, and they will shoot across from all directions. It can be viewed each year as our planet passes through a cloud of the comet’s debris – consisting of ice and dust older than 1,000 years old, which present a visual feast as they burn up in the Earth’s atmosphere.
While this celestial event will be best viewed in the UK, modern technology now allows the whole world to check it out – live.
Enjoy!
