Cycling an airborne bicycle into the moonlit sky like that boy in E.T. has become a reality, and it can be done without the need for ambiguous alien magic. Presenting the XploreAir Paravelo, the world’s first flying bicycle which, according to Kickstarter entrepreneurs John Foden & Yannick Read, promises to “revolutionize the way we travel for work, play, and adventure.”
The Paravelo is a basically shaped like a regular two-wheeled bike that is designed to tow a lightweight trailer carrying a sufficiently powerful fan. We don’t need to explain the cycling to you, but when you need/want to fly, all you need to do is dock the bike with its trailer to allow for a flexible wing to deploy and fire up fan!
At top speed, the Paravelo can go on for about three hours and fly as high as 4,000ft. And while you do not need to a license to fly this thing, you should apply common sense and avoid places with potentially deadly obstructions like trees, buildings, and power cables. Seeing that the Paravelo can achieve top speeds of about 40kmh, you should probably perform the airborne feat in wide open spaces area if you’d really like to reduce the risk of experiencing an ‘epic fail’.
Now, if you think that the innovation ends there, then you’ll be pleasantly surprised to find that the Paravelo was also designed to fold into a compact size for you to easily carry and store.
