STUDY LINKS PERSONALITY TO NUT PREFERENCE
It may sound a bit nutty but according to research done by scientists from Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, you favourite variety of nut may just reveal your personality.
It may sound a bit nutty but according to research done by scientists from Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago, you favourite variety of nut may just reveal your personality.
Based on a study on nut preference and personality conducted by Dr. Alan R. Hirsch, founder of the Smell & Taste Treatment and Research Foundation in Chicago in collaboration with Fisher Nuts, more than 1,000 men and women had to select their favourite nut from five unlabelled samples of almonds, walnuts, salted peanuts, cashews and pecans. They gave the participants standardised personality tests then asked the participants to choose from five types of nuts.
THE PERSONALITY TYPES ARE:
Salted Peanuts: Dramatic extroverts who crave novelty and thrive as the centre of attention; they are easily bored with the usual routine, and while charming in social situations, are sensitive to criticism and rejection. These are people to take to a party. They probably love roller coasters and karaoke.

ALMONDS:
Scrupulous, conscientious, moral perfectionists who have high standards for themselves and others. While intensely motivated, they tend to become over committed at work or home, taking on more projects than they can comfortably complete. Hands-on approach to problems makes almond-lovers ideal workers.

PECANS:
Devoted, loyal, true friends. Overly generous, pecan lovers will consider others’ needs before their own. Dependable, they are most comfortable with the usual routines of life. They are tenacious, committed team players who don’t require adulation, and are satisfied sharing accolades with their friends, family or co-workers.

CASHEWS:
Empathic, easy-going, well-adjusted. Cashew lovers make the perfect spouse or parent. Calm and level-headed, they can be depended upon in times of crisis or emergency. A cashew is a good person to have around when the plumbing goes awry or the lights go out. A cashew just knows what to do.

WALNUTS:
Aggressive, achievement-oriented, natural leaders, competitive, successful, driven, and intolerant of defeat. Walnut lovers demand the best at work and at home. They are easily irritated with the routine side of life. They cannot tolerate life’s inconveniences such as being stuck in rush hour traffic or waiting in long lines.

IT’S GOOD TO GO NUTS
•Although nuts are calorie-dense, nut-eaters are slimmer than the rest of the population. The protein found in nuts helps you feel
fuller for longer and less likely to snack on other less healthy food.
•Nuts are very high in fats but they are an excellent source of ‘good’ fats. The monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats found in
nuts help lower ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol, promoting a healthy heart.
•Nuts are a good source of many vitamins and minerals – vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, selenium and folate among others. They
are also a good source of fibre and phytochemicals which act as antioxidants.
•There is some evidence to suggest health-protective benefits of nuts other than decreasing the risk of coronary heart disease, such
as reduction in the risk of type 2 diabetes and a decreased risk of some cancers. However, more studies are needed to find a direct
association.
